In his 35-year career, Broadway playwright William Luce wrote extensively for stage and screen, authoring the award-winning classics The Belle of Amherst for Julie Harris and Barrymore for Christopher Plummer, among a dozen other acclaimed works for acting legends Zoe Caldwell, Claire Bloom, Frances de La Tour, George C. Scott, Jane Seymour, and Piper Laurie. He collaborated with Henry Mollicone on several stage works, including the 2003 opera Gabriel’s Daughter.

AWARDS:

  • PBS production of Belle won three Christopher Awards

  • The Thames TV production of Belle starring Claire Bloom won the International Emmy Award

  • Tony Awards: Lucifer’s Child and Bronte

  • Peabody Awards: Lillian, Bravo Caruso, The Last Flapper, Chanel, and The Divine Orlando

  • Barrymore starring Christopher Plummer won the Tony Award for Best Actor.
